Living With Cancer
You may have just found out that you have cancer, or you may be facing the challenges of treatment. You may be a survivor wondering what your future holds. You may be caring for a loved one with cancer and feeling the need for help. Whatever your situation, you are probably experiencing a range of emotions, making tough decisions and dealing with daily life. This is one of the hardest things you’ll ever go through; it’s important that you feel seen, understood and supported.
There is no single right approach and no simple answer to living with cancer. I offer support to help you:
Express your feelings without having to worry about the impact on loved ones
Find effective ways to cope with anxiety, depression, confusion, anger and guilt
Heal medical trauma
Navigate changes in self and relationships
Identify what you need from others and what you don’t
Manage the challenges of the medical system
Process grief and loss
Explore end-of-life issues
Define and adjust to your new normal
Cultivate positive body image and sexuality
Tap into your inner strengths and resources
Move forward in ways that align with your values, beliefs and personality
I have a long history of working with cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones, beginning with my first post-college job as a Clinical Assistant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I have been involved with The Women’s Cancer Resource Center in Oakland since 2010, providing in-home practical and emotional support as a Betts Volunteer, participating in the Continuing Education Program for therapists and facilitating support groups for women with cancer. I am passionate about supporting people through the emotions and life changes that accompany cancer diagnosis, treatment and healing.
